Kathy, Miles is a cutie. What a great idea to do a cake. I hope you get to go see him in person soon. Is Miles walking yet? It's then that the fun(?) really begins.
How wonderful that we have two new grandmas in our group. Teresa, Lilly is a doll, too. She has such a sweet smile.
My grandma news is that I got a very nice note from my grandson, Garrett, one of him with his dog Molly and two are photos of him working on a house. We have talked about choosing work that we are "passionate" about, and he told me in this letter that the construction photos are what he is "passionate about." I'm so glad that he found a profession he enjoys. I'm sure you know that letters are rare in this time, so I am really happy he chose to write one.
Need to go try to upgrade our desktop. What a job that has been! I was about to give up until the instructions I had tried several times finally worked and my laptop is now protected. Off to the desktop.
Take care, Judy

Ginny, I got the the little booklet today and the card. Thank you so much. I think it will be useful.
Had a few rough days eating wise, I was literally attacked by chocolate chips and the next day a bag of Doritos cornered me and chibs and we were forced to give in. Today I am back on track but I did eat a little too much of my veggie spaghetti.
Chibs has gotten all of his shots, the vet had originally said she wanted to wait until he was one years old to neuter him but when I told her of some of his behavior she agreed to do it at 6 months. Huge relief but in all honesty, if she wouldnt do it I would have found a vet that would.
This dog is certainly full of it and is quite the ornery little pistol but I sure am enjoying him. He makes me insanely crazy daily but I also laugh a lot daily.
I am currently sucked into watching a bad B movie about a shark in Lake Tahoe, haha. For some reason i love these bad shows.

What a crazy couple of weeks this has been computer-wise, and the problem(s) still aren't resolved. Every time I think the something is solved something else pops up. I try so hard not to get upset and my daughter keeps telling me not to, but my brain doesn't seem to shut down. Anyway, I hopeful that today I will get some answers.
I accidentally saved my class to my computer instead of the cloud so now I don't know how to send it to the students who weren't able to come to class. I'll check with the tech at LBCC and see if he has a suggestion, if he doesn't I'll just delete the recording...that is, if I can figure out where the heck it is.
The good news is that I didn't hit the deer on my way to exercise this morning. Jim and I have talked about getting a new car, but that's definitely NOT the way I want to do it.
Teresa, I'm glad you are enjoying Chibs. I love the photos you post, he definitely has the "poor me" look down.
Glad you are getting back on track, but I hear you! I have been so stressed with all the computer stuff that all I want to do is eat. I've had one heck of a time staying out of the stuff that's okay once in awhile, but not all the time.
Just about time to call the "help" number for the computer. Let's hope they do a better job than they've done for the the last couple of weeks.
Take care, Judy

My computer problem is finally fixed!!! Hurray!!! The tech who helped me last even apologized and said the company needed to reassess their customer help. It took the better part of two weeks and was very upsetting. I knew that I shouldn't let it upset me, but I kept thinking about it, and especially at night the thoughts just would not go away. My daughter told me I needed to let it go...easy to say...and I tried...but hard to do. Last night I slept really well, and that felt great! I couldn't have done it without my daughter's help. By the time the tech finally really helped me I actually knew what he was talking about and asking me to do.
Hope everyone is doing well. Two more of my classes, and one more class of the one I take. I am ready for a break.
Take care, Judy

Hi, I am 3.9 pounds away from onderland. I feel like it will take 6 months or more to get thse 3+ pounds off.
Chibs and I have been going on a walk a day even when I dont feel like it. Sometimes we go on two or three walks. We also play ball in the yard several times a day. So I am at least getting excersize in. I am still in awe every time I set out on a walk, it wasnt too long ago that I coudnt walk and would turn blue if I tried.
That is about all that is going on in my life. I still dont see anyone very much. I get kind of lonesome for friends but oh well, it is what it is I guess.

Congratulations, Teresa, you are doing so well even with the foods that "attack" you periodically. It's so wonderful that you are able to get out for walks and feel like playing with Chibs. I'm sure I interact more with people that you do, even it it's on Zoom, but I understand too, what you mean about feeling lonely. I really miss my friend Marlene, and she's been gone for several years now, but I no longer have a friend that I can call and spend time with. I miss that. You're right, it is what it is, and we are learning to live in a different reality whether we like it or not.
I spoke to soon. My computer problems are not over. The good news is that I'm not as stressed as I was. I think it's because I can actually see what the problem is even if I don't know how to solve it. I believe I've solved the desktop issues, now if the techs will tell me what is going on with my laptop. All I want to do is be sure that our computers are being backed. When I ask myself the question, how hard can it be? My answer is "very hard", especially when one has no computer expertise.
Back to my list. I have to go get more bird seed and suet. Those birds are real PIGS!
Take care, Judy

I am "cautiously optimistic" that my computer problem is solved. We'll see what the backup control panel reports. It looks good on the laptop, and that was the problem yesterday, and I'll check the desktop later.
Yesterday I went and stocked up on bird seed and suet. I hadn't really thought about how much the little piggies were eating until figured out in a week and a half they had gone through 20 lbs. of bird seed, and in less than a week a dozen suet squares. I'm sure once the spring and summer are over the bird population will decrease. I have to store extra bird seed in a metal garbage can because the squirrels gnawed through a plastic one. (It was outside near the feeders.) Mice, of course, are another problem unless the bag is contained in something. So far that has worked well for one sack, I keep a sack of seed in the entry way in a plastic garbage can so it's easy to access. (So far no squirrels in the house. ) I looked for a small garbage can to hold one sack of seed yesterday and couldn't find one. I'll check another hardware store today and if they don't have one, I'll check on the web.
My beautiful Japanese iris have come and gone. I sure wished they bloomed longer. The lilacs are gone, too. The peonies and clematis are bloomed though. The clematis will be around for a while thank goodness.
Class today and then one more next week. So looking forward to the break...
Time to get back to class prep. Take care, Judy

I finally got around to looking at all the quotes and figuring out what they were talking about, kind of. Decided on the people who I called originally. They have been around for decades. And that's what they do. The furnace will be installed June 7 and it will take 2 guys most of the day to do it. I finally learned how to reset the furnace. Lately it won't stay lite. The weather has turned cooler and we've had snow. Yes snow. It's still early here. We usually have cooler weather around this weekend and it's not disappointing us. so glad that I'm not tenting! I joined a group but haven't got to any of the emails or attachments to read. It cost me $20. Was suppose to have classes but with everything closed in the province no body is really doing anything. The numbers are dropping but because of the Long Weekend that will possible change again. Hopefully people are listening and doing what they are told. There is a real high percentage of people who have been vaccinated with the 1st dose.
Miles isn't walking yet. He likes to climb stairs. and he is talking more. Has more teeth coming and hungry. No sign of me going West as the highways are closed for unnecessary travel and the fines are not small.
Hope you are all well!
Hugs Kathy

Teresa, I am so glad to hear your health is improving. How much of that is medical help and how much is just your own dogged determination to lose weight? You are doing such a wonderful job. (Not perfect, just wonderful, which is about all we human beings can expect.) There is another package in the mail—again not exactly what I wanted but all I could find. I wish they still made the video series that was on PBS that I used to train Twiggy…but they don’t so I hope this will help.
Judy, I feel for you and your computer problems. I long for the long-ago days when I pretty much understood what was going on re computers. Unfortunately, computers got “better” and I no longer am able to improve my skills to match. My, but we really have a lot of birds this season. I’ve even seen the Red Breasted Grossbeak and his mate a couple times. The male is a real standout with his red triangle on his chest (like superman [or superbird] but his mate is even more exciting to me, since she is harder to notice…just a pale brown bird with white spots on the edges of her wings that exactly match those on her mate’s. The Pileated Woodpeckers also must have had a good breeding season last year, because their numbers have at least doubled. I noticed a couple warblers a week or so ago, also exciting to me because they are only here briefly during Migration. I’ll see if I can find an image and post it. I am not even sure how many pounds of sunflower seed and suet squares I have gone through. I also had to buy metal cans to keep seed in. I keep telling myself it is my vacation $$ which I don’t spend. A chipmunk family must have had babies, and we watched them while we were supposed to be be busy with Bible Study. They were adorable, even though distracting. My clematis is just beautiful right now, peonies are bright with bloom, and I have I think it is a Knock Out rose that has so many blossoms on it that you couldn’t count them all if you tried. Thank you, God, for all this beauty. Karen and I got all the annuals into huge pots and they are sitting on the deck, looking as if they have recovered from their transplanting, The deck is going to be replaced at the end of July, so they will all have to be moved when that happens—I’m not sure where.
Kathy, it sounds like your life will be disrupted for a while, shortly. My guys have said probably a week, so I am expecting 2 weeks at least. What kind of group did you join? Such a disappointment that you can’t get out to visit Miles. You won’t get that time back. I hope they are video taping his progress. The numbers here are getting better as more people get vaccinated. Our governor’s vaccine lottery has helped some people get off their hands and get the vaccination. No one had to bribe me to get mine!
Take care, all, and Hugs, Ginny

Ginny, it's really good to hear from you. The bird drama continues...last night we had the Lone Turkey on our deck under the bird feeders. I'm so glad he can't use the tube feeder. I had to move the hummingbird feeder because there is such activity on the suet feeder that they weren't coming. Jim has counted six birds on the suet feeder which holds two squares, it's about 12" long by 4-5" wide. And, those six birds were not tiny. After I moved the hummingbird feeder, I watched it and sure enough they started coming back. I finally got a small garbage can for the seed so I can buy two 20lb. bags at a time. It's the right size, but it's white plastic and looks like a diaper pail. Right now it's by the front door, but I'm moving it as soon as I can figure out another easily accessible place. No diapers in this house.
Kathy, I hope you will be able to go see Miles soon. It must be so difficult to wait. I'm glad we have virtual ways we can get in touch and see the other person. It's not good enough, but it is better than just phone calls.
I had my last writing class on Monday and today is my last Write Your Life Story class this term. It will be so nice to have a break. I'll be signing up for the writing class again, but it doesn't start until the first part of July so I'm "free" for a while.
Life is gradually reopening around here. Masks are still required in most stores, but that's not an issue for me because I'd probably wear a mask in stores anyway. It's nice not to have to wear a mask for exercise. Practically every one who comes to the fitness club has been vaccinated. My family has all had their shots so we can get together. Our first party will be for Izaak's girlfriend who graduates from high school this year. She is having her party at my daughter's home and we will be outside.
Guess I'd better wind this up. The dreaded news is about to come on, and I don't want to watch.
Take care, Judy

Judy, I hope you have better luck with your plastic can than I did--I had mine outside on the deck initially, and the squirrels chewed right through it. Back to metal for me, unless I have room in the freezer in my utility room. I have to admit I initially thought how can Izaak have a girlfriend, let alone one that is graduating. The time really does fly, I still remember him as a birth announcement on this thread. It has been raining here for a couple days, but everything is still beautiful. Ginny

Ginny, my plan was to get a metal can because the squirrels did the same thing to our first can that we used for birdseed. This can is harder plastic and so is the lid...we'll see. If it fails, I'll go back to Wilco and order a metal one. They had the metal cans, but no lids. It was the third place I looked and the first place I found a smaller can so I decided to take a chance.
My last Write Your Life Story class was today. Zoom just couldn't stand it. I disappeared in the middle of class. Fortunately, it was time for a break so the class went on break and after a few minutes I was able to get back to class. I was supposed to go to my quilt guild meeting last night, but my Zoom kept crashing. Finally, I gave up. I assumed it was my internet link, but the link where I do my class is very good, so I think it was Zoom. Nothing like being 15 minutes late for my first class Winter Term because my computer decided to update and now disappearing in my last class Spring Term.
This morning I had an Awards committee meeting for the Association for Gravestone Studies virtual conference in June. It began at 6 a.m. for me. The other members of the committee were in New England, Louisiana and Texas. The whole conference is on EDT, one of the sessions begins a 5 a.m. for me during the conference. It should be a very interesting week. Zoom-wise, fortunately, all went well this this morning.
Ginny, it IS pretty difficult to believe Izaak has a girlfriend. They have been going together for quite a while He graduated last year, took a year off and worked mainly because of the pandemic and plans to start a plumbing program at Chemeketa Community College in Salem, about 40 miles away. Unfortunately, our local community college doesn't offer that program. Lizzie, Izaak's girlfriend is going to Western Oregon University about 20 miles away. They have an excellent teachers' program and she wants to be a teacher. She has been in a Spanish language immersion program so she is bilingual. Don't think she will have any problem getting a job when she graduates.
Time to do dishes and get ready to go to bed. No exercise tomorrow so I can sleep in.
Take care, Judy
