August 3, 2021 I am editing my last post, as I can't find the box to click on for "reply" That happened last time too. If no one else is having trouble, maybe it is just my ancient Mac. Just wanted to mention to Judy that after all summer having no hummingbirds (and taking down the feeder) I suddenly have the same hummingbird (I think--at least, it is always a female) coming and making multiple visits to my 5 big pots of red impatients...again and again, swooping and hovering. So at least I think she is being fed, even though I gave up on the feeder. Judy I wanted to ask, I never have had them stay longer than a split second at any one flower. Is that normal? Hugs, Ginny
Hello Ladies, Thank you for the birthday wishes, Judy...and I loved the purrfect wishes, Teresa. Karen cooked a birthday dinner for me and our two guests. She just recently got one of the new insta-pot type pressure cookers, and has been trying out various things in it. She brought it over so I could see it in action. She did baby back ribs in it, sort of pot roast style, with carrots, onions and potatoes. They were delish. Everything but the birthday cake is gone. I am also thinking about getting one of the new presssure cookers, but I think I will get the 6 quart rather than the 8 qt. that she got. Her 8 qt. fit on my counter, but just barely...I hope the 6 qt. is a bit smaller. I have to decide whether I am really going to cook, though, before I buy it. I have gotten very lazy about cooking. Much easier to get take out, or frozen meals, but of course they are neither as good as this meal was. I can't remember whether I mentioned I finally bit the bullet and bought a cell phone. I am struggling to learn how to do just the basics. It's not that they are so hard, it is just that I can't remember the steps. Yesterday, while my guests were still here, a beautiful Goldfinch came and landed on the huge sunflower that came up as a weed in a pot of Gerbera Daisies. I noticed they did that last summer too. Just one bird, the exact same color as the sunflower petals are, perching on the top of the seed head and plucking out perfectly fresh seeds. So everyone ran to get their cell phones to try and get a picture. Karen was quite busy, as neither I or Becky knew how to do it, and I am not sure which of us is the dumber when it comes to technology. She did put a picture on my camera, and helped Becky get one on hers. Then this morning I was sitting in the chair by the sliding glass doors and the Goldfinch showed up again. I got my camera set up and got several pictures. Actually I took about 30, and then had to go back and delete most of them. I have about 10 left to sort through again. My battery was beeping at me, so I had to quit. But I have it charging, and hope they will come back again. IF I get one that is decent enough to send AND IF I can figure out how to send it, I'll do so. (Don't hold your breaths though) The promised date for my old deck to be torn down and the new one put up is coming up soon. Not quite sure how that will go, but I have my fingers crossed. Hope you are not all melting, Hugs, Ginny

The week before last I had a cardiologist appt, last week I had a pulmonology appt, this week I have an echo and next week I have an interview for medicare. I cant wait for it all to be over.
Today was too smokey for us to go play and Chibs is so sad. Tonight I stepped on something in the kitchen, I dont know what but I gushed blood all over the place and my foot hurts.
They are raising the space rent again, if they keep this up I will have to go back to work.
Other than that, not much is going on. Went to lunch two different days with two different sets of friends That was nice.

I realized I haven't posted for a while. Since my daughter arrived last Wednesday, I have not done much on computer. We have been busy. Our goal is to completely clean and reorganize the kitchen. I am so happy we are doing this. I have been working to organize (and downsize), but often, even though I make progress it's not visible (like going through papers, I know I made progress, but it's not visible to anybody else.) I needed to SEE progress, and it's happening. Having a kitchen that is already beginning to work better feels really good.
Ginny, what you are describing about your hummingbird is feeding is the same way I see the hummingbirds feed at my salvia. It seems as if they would barely have time to get anything, but apparently they do. They also are coming to the feeders, but the feeders are going down much more slowly. All the bird activity is much less now. Not quite sure why.
Teresa, doctor appointments and test always seem to take a lot of energy. I am sorry you are having smoke issues. I don't know why but smoke has so far not been a problem in the valley. I love the photos you post of Chibs. I LOVE those ears.
Kylee and I are going to the Coast today. She is filling at a pharmacy in Newport for two days, so I will be on my own during the day, but that certainly won't be a problem. There's always something to do at the Coast and the weather is supposed to be nice. I also have some projects I'm taking with me, and I don't mind at all sitting and watching the ocean and working on a project or reading.
My sister is coming on Saturday, and I have more family stuff for her to look at. My children have had the opportunity to look at family items and mostly they don't want the things. Erin and I both enjoy things that have memories for us. Erin also has a daughter who enjoys family items. So...we'll see what she wants me to pack up and send to her. Hopefully another box of "stuff" that I don't have to think about anymore.
Time to close and finish packing for the next couple of day.
Take care, Judy

It's a day off and it's Friday. Had quite a week which will probably get better if only a certain son would return Texts or answer phone messages. Talking to my other son that's his way and then he tries to blame the person who sent the texts as it's their fault. So Miles is walking but as soon as they bring out the camera he sits down. Haven't had any new pictures in awhile. Supposedly they are coming to spend the day with me next week, the reason why I'm upset they aren't answering their devices!
So far my shoulder is there. Doesn't hurt unless I move it the wrong way which I haven't figure out what that way is. I am trying to claim WCB from a few years ago and they are looking into it.
Haven't heard anything about my surgery so am on the list. I guess I'm not high on the list as it is just an inconvenience when it happens but I personally believe it's happening more often,
It Smokey here and the temperatures have been in the high 20 to the mid 30's daily. Lots of nights it doesn't cool down. The visibility is very poor and some days one can taste the smoke. Last year we had hardly any smoke. I guess we're making up for it this year. We've broken high temperature records from decades ago.
I've been invaded with ants. They are all over my house. In the kitchen, entry way and living room. I've washed with vinegar, sprayed, used salt and cinnamon and bought some stuff and they sit there and then disappear and more come. I end up just killing them with a newspaper. Any suggestions?
The wind has come up but it hasn't done much to clear the air. It feels cooler but it's still 29C about 80 F.
Hope everyone is well and enjoying their hummingbirds.
Hugs Kathy

I too am feeling frustration over "stuff" in my life. The deck replacement people are getting ready to start on the deck in a few days, so we are trying to find a place to put all the plants now on the old deck, all in huge pots, probably 12 to 15, the kind a small tree would fit in. It sounded like a good idea at the time. All my space is taken up. I'm thinking about bringing them in, at least as many as will fit into my family room, which is about half probably. It is hotter than Hades here, but at least we don't have the smoke problem, although some days we have beautiful sunsets because of the smoke particles, clear over here in middle of the U.S. The inside kitties and I are doing fine, but I am a bit worried about Spotty the outside cat. Hope he makes it through the deck project ok. Judy, after complaining about the lack of hummingbirds all summer, there is still this new one, I think, a female, who zips around all day sipping from any and all the red flowers. I have never had so much attention from a hummingbird, in all the years I've lived here. I think it is the same one, I never see more than one at a time. I've gotten quite fond of her. Nothing else much exciting, so I'll sign off before I lose my post. Hugs, Ginny

I enjoyed the time at the Coast even though the weather was mostly foggy. Still it was much cooler than in the Valley a definite plus.
Kylee I and I have been working purging and reorganizing. It is so helpful to have her here. As we get rid of stuff garbage or donation she hauls it away and takes care of it which just make everything so much easier for me. We have a lot of storage space, and now it is being utilized much better than it was. I had to laugh because I just saw an article entitled, "Are Your Spices Older Than Your Children?" Well, none of mine were THAT old, but some were definitely older than my grandchildren. Out the oldies went and I made a list of only the spices I thought I would use.
I think once we get the kitchen finished I will be able to continue working on one small area at a time. I have been so overwhelmed with all that needed to be done. Now there will be places for many things that have ended up here and there.
We also decided that I will go visit Kylee around my birthday in February 2022. Our main goal is to finally make the Santa Fe trip that we planned to go on when Covid hit. Since Kylee is visiting now and plans to come again in November or December it didn't seem to make sense for me to visit during the same time period. I don't know if my class will be virtual Winter Term, but I'm sure I can find a sub or extend the class a week.
Kathy, I'm so sorry to hear about your ant problem. We have been lucky the last few years; however, I'm not sure if it's luck or the face that we have a company that comes regularly to spray around our houses. It's called Good Earth and they use non-toxic sprays, etc.
Ginny, hope your deck renovation goes quickly and that your outside kitty manages the disruption. Hope you are able to save all you plants.
Teresa, I'm really enjoying your FB posts with Chibs. He is so cute, and I adore those ears. I'm so glad you were able to get a dog.
Better close and go shopping for a hose and sprayer so our new farmhouse renters (my granddaughter and boyfriend) can water their yard. Bridget loves the farm, but I'm not sure she completely understands taking care of the property. This is the first time they have to do this.
Take care, Judy

Yesterday it was so cold that I almost turned the furnace on! It was 13C = 55 F Today it's sunny, the heat is coming through the smoke and it's 24 C = 75 F by the end of the week the temperatures are suppose to be back in the 30's. Was nice to have a cooling period but sometimes when it cools down the temperatures never go back up. Hope this time they will.
Haven't heard from my son and his family. Sure screws up one's days off.
Defrosted my fridge and the ice and water maker doesn't work. Am off to buy a new water filter and air filter. Hopefully that helps. Defrosting didn't help and I can't get the water filter out and reinstall so probably will have to do some whining and make get it fixed. Am not holding my breath!
had better finish getting dressed as I have a shift around 5 pm and still have a few errands to run!
Judy I wish I had someone who would go through boxes (rubber maid containers) with me. When I was putting them on the shelves I saw lots of stuff that needed to be thrown out but I thought if I started doing that task I'd never get the stuff on the shelves. Well, it's on the shelves and it still needs to be done with. Another project for a day with nothing else to do. My kids never stay long enough to help. Just a breeze in and out.
My #2 son got a job with the Minister of Health in BC. He will be a project coordinator. He's pretty happy to final have permanent job. Now they can start thinking about other things that they want to do .
Teresa hope you are feeling better! No fun going to Doctor appointments and tests!
Hugs Kathy

I only got a little work done in the kitchen, but I managed to write my monthly grandchildren letters and finish the Round Robin quilt that is due to be handed back on Monday. The kitchen is really close to being finished, and it's always a relief to do get the monthly letter out. My life just isn't that exciting, it just gets busy and I don't think the grandkids want to hear about busy. We are on the last round of our Round Robin quilts. The quilts go back to their owners on Monday. Often by Round Three the quilt is really done and finding something to add can be a challenge. Such was the case with the quilt I got. It felt finished when I got it, but I tried to think of something I could add, experimented a bit, but nothing looked right, so...I added another border which really only makes the quilt bigger. The most creative part of adding a border is choosing the color. I am pleased with how it looks with another border.
It's been hot and I have been staying in and enjoying the AC. There are wildfires south of us and it has been hazy for the last few days, but doesn't smell smoky. About 40 miles south of here it is both hazy and smells like smoke so the haze is no doubt smoke.
The Montana trip begins on Thursday. I wonder what the smoke situation will be there. They also have wildfires.
Teresa, I hope you and Chibs are surviving the heat, and that it cools off enough so you can take Chibs to his favorite hangout. I saw a photo of a dog that looked so much like Chibs I wondered if he had escaped. Maybe it is his brother or sister. It is those ears that I truly love.
Hope everyone has a good weekend, take care.

We have not been enjoying the church as much. There is a lady who brings her black german shepherd. She does not keep control of him and he is a bully. He went after chibs one night but I was able to get to chibs first. The second night she came after we were already there and he went after chibs again, he hurt my dog, I took him home and he was all bloody. His ear is ripped up. Last night he went after him again and I got to chibs first and I was screaming my head off, that dog paid me no mind and that stupid woman did nothing. Tonight I waited for a while before we went. I was so relieved she was not there, we had been there 5 minutes and she showed up. We left immediately. I want her and her dumbasss dog to go away. Most of the people and the dogs are wonderful and chibs loves going and loves the people and his new buddies. That woman and he beast will not ruin it. I just dont know what to do about it. She said she was sorry for one of the times but nothing since and doesnt even try to control her dog and she doesnt go to one side or corner, she plants herself right in the middle of the field.
We are smokey and hot. I am over that too.
I bought a Ninja blender and it make snow out of ice cubes. haha it was fantastic, I never had anything that was able to do that. So I made a margarita. haha I need to get snow cone syrup for Brody

Just wanted to let you know that I'll be out of touch for a week. The trip to Montana and Glacier begins tomorrow. Today I'm saying goodbye to Kylee. I will really miss her. It's been a wonderful visit, and both my kitchen and bathroom are more organized than they have ever been. Kylee will be back around Christmas, but it's unlikely it will be a long visit like this one was.
I decided not to take my computer on my trip and I'm putting an automatic vacation message on my email. However, I am taking my phone and I will able to access my email and reply if I need to. I'll be back on the 25th, so life will go back to my regular schedule on the 26th.
Kathy, you are right. The West is on fire! I know there are fires in Montana and I'm not sure how our trip will be affected, but I guess I'm going to find out.
Hope everyone is doing okay. Kathy, we would love a little rain, so maybe we can exchange weather.
Take care, I'll post when I return. Judy
