I cannot stand the cold anymore. Since developing pulmonary hypertension it is even worse for me. It literally hurts. I need to figure out a way to move some place warmer.
What do you think of the patch work thread?

It's no surprise, I'm sure. I love the patchwork thread.
Yesterday it took me well over a half hour to dig my car out from 6" at least of snow. No early morning exercise for me this week. I am going later in the morning with Jim. I miss my crew, but I just can't see trying to get the car ready at 4:30. However, now that I don't have to get up early, guess when I wake up? Yep, just about the time I would wake up to go to exercise at my usual time. Of course, I can't go back to sleep.
I have been downloading camera cards into my cloud account. It's fun and a challenge all at the same time. Definitely a walk down Memory Lane. I've also been sorting the travel "stuff" I have collected over the years. After I get what I need from it, I guess I'll donate the books I've purchased to the library. I've already recycled a lot of stuff, but I'm sure there's more to go.
Teresa, where do you think you would like to live? Warmer is relative. For example, it's usually warmer here than it is where you live in the winter and cooler in the summer. Of course, now I have to add for the first time in 13 years we have snow and LOW temps for the next week or so. I'm thinking that you are thinking of really warm. That's probably not the west side of the mountains although that would be an improvement.
Speaking of cold, Kathy, your temps are frigid. As part of my daughter's job she has to go to Fairbanks once a month. She started this early this month, and is scheduled to go again January 3rd. She did some serious cold weather clothes shopping because Fairbanks is the cold part of Alaska. She is enjoying seeing the area, but she wishes she didn't have to go quite so often.
Thanks for the new thread, Teresa. Time for dinner. Take care, Judy

Happy New Year! Let's hope that the new year brings us a break from the many variants of Covid. I am wearing an N95 mask whenever I go out. It is not my favorite mask because it is rigid and heavier than the masks I usually wear. I'm sure that's what makes it so much safer.
Can't believe that my personal writing class begins on Tuesday. My class doesn't begin until near the end of January. I do need to start thinking about handouts. I have an idea for the first one, but that leaves seven to go.
We so far have not been blessed with more snow, but our temps are freezing or near freezing, and yesterday the snow as replaced by rain. I'll not complain about that! I was able to go to early morning exercise yesterday and today, so I feel as I'm getting back on schedule. It's odd how when we get used to doing something at a certain time, not doing it then sort of makes the whole day a little off.
Hope all is well with everyone. I'm spending the evening reading a good book. Take care, Judy

Right now we are sitting at 5 degrees at 9:00 on New years day. We will have snow off and on for the next few days.
My dream living destination that I hope to make a reality before I am dead is Kilgore Texas. I have never been there, I had actually never heard about it before and now it is screaming my name so loud that I know it is my future home. Have I gone crazy? Possibly!
Happy New Year

It's warmed up here! We're sitting at 35 F which is much better then -27 F. But it's not suppose to last too long. By Wednesday we will probably be back to the -20's F for a while. Doesn't surprise me. When we had my Dad's funeral in 1998 and my Mom's in 2016 it was on the 7th and 6th. The temperatures were really cold. Both of them disliked the cold and usually went south to Arizona for the winter. Have just been working, sleeping and eating the last few weeks. Cooked a stuffed turkey breast and yam for Christmas Dinner and then ate Parkhouse buns and turkey for lunch till the turkey was all gone. Bought a frozen dinner that had ginger beef and rice for New Year's Dinner. I worked New Year's Day 8-4:30 p. Quite different hours. The store got quite busy at times and people were quite ancy about the lineups. Have Sunday off and am trying to get some laundry done, tidying up and putting stuff away. Go to work at midnight and still haven't got my Boss anything for Christmas. I bought a card of a pig and frame for her daughter who loves pigs. The card is a copy of an original painting, I also got a card of a cow and sent it to my sister who loves cows. I bought 2 of this lady's paintings and put them in my bathroom, they are of sunflowers. I didn't go anywhere for Christmas or New Year's. They are frowning on too much interaction. It was even too cold to go anywhere anyways. I am enjoying my vehicle. Haven't put it into 4 wheel drive yet. The roads are getting slippery because of the cold temperatures and then warmer temps but they seem to be sanding. I don't drive in traffic.
Teresa Where is this place in Texas? Texas gets snow too?
Hugs Kathy

Kathy, Kilgore Texas is East Texas. Yes parts of Texas gets more snow than others but the winters are nothing like here. Kilgore is a smaller little town and close to Tyler Texas and Tyler has a pulmonary hypertension clinic so they have specialists there where there are none where I live. I have never lived outside of Oregon. I really hope this is something I can make a reality but it sure wont be for a while.

Hello all, Just wanted to say I love the new Patchwork thread. I discovered that the local PBS station has Sewing with Nancy on again—I haven’t seen it in years. She was always into machine quilting, which always fascinated me. I still have the Christmas tree up and outside decorations, and 2 Nativity scenes indoors. I have a feeling this may be one of the years things don’t get put away until St. Paddy’s day. Teresa, I’m with you with not enjoying the cold weather. Last night was one of those nights (9 degrees F) you have to get all your faucets on a slow drip to prevent the water lines from freezing and bursting. I always have trouble getting the slow drip set just right. I worry about the outside cat in weather like this, even though he has a little shelter with a kennel warming pad. He seemed to be ok this morning though, even though the wind took my breath way when I set his breakfast out. He has a heated dish, and water bowl, and he was out of his house, sitting next to the brick side of the house in the sun this morning. I know he is wearing a fur coat, but I don’t see how he manages when it is bitter cold. I think we have gone up to the high 30’s today. I’ve turned all the drips off. Kathy, we didn’t get but a thin cover of snow, which is fine with me. When I leave my house, which sits up on a hill, there is no way out without at least a 30 degree angle road. It is quite hilly in my area, up and down, and more up and down. I always take the worse one, because that is the one they always clean the most thoroughly. I am terrified when I have to drive in snow—even though I do have 4 wheel drive, I rarely go out when the weather is bad. When I retired from school, I said that I would never have go out in the snow again. I do like to sit with a cup of cocoa and watch the trees in my back yard turn from barren to fairy land, though. The kind of snow I like is the kind you don’t have to drive in. Teresa, I hope you are able to move to your dream town someday soon. I hope everyone is OK, and staying healthy, and WARM. Hugs, Ginny

Hope everyone is doing well. It's been a while since anyone posted. For the now the snow and floods are gone and today there is even sun. I am happy to have a break from the rain. We had a cow and calf escape from one of the properties close by. She figured out how to open the gate. They went on walkabout and ended up in one of the lower fields on our property trapped by the flood waters. I haven't heard if she and her calf have been rescued yet, but I imagine they have now that the water has gone down. I'm going to see if someone knows for sure later today.
My monthly weigh-in at WW went well, and I managed to stay in the zone for another month. I was a little worried this month because I knew it would be close thanks to Christmas and New Years.
Not sure if my writing class will "go" this quarter, there are only five people signed up. Two of my regulars have been in touch to tell me they are taking a term off. However, there are several more regulars who still might sign up. If I have 10 I think they will let the class go. I guess we'll see...
Teresa, while Texas is not my favorite state, it seems like Kilgore would be a good choice for you. What would be involved in moving? Of course, money, but I imagine you have already checked the availability of housing and the cost. It probably also means a different car. Your current car has been a trooper, but I think Texas might be a stretch for it. Do you know anyone in Kilgore? There might be a group associated with the clinic that would give you helpful information.
Guess I'd better do something on my list. Time to sign off, Happy New Year, take care, Judy

Ginny, ugh the slow drizzle. I always worry I wont get it going enough and it will drizzle off and my tub has a short faucet so I cant do a slow drizzle or it runs back up to the wall and down onto the floor so it has to run at a higher flow. Drives me nuts all night.
Judy, my niece is in Hallsville which is only 20 minutes or so from Kilgore (to my understanding) right now it is just a dream, it would probably take winning the lottery for me to be able to actually move. So I guess you all are stuck listening to me gripe about the weather.
My neighbor rents the place he is in and the Landlord put his place up for sale. He says he will have to move. I feel bad for him and I also worry about new neighbors. You never know what you are going to get. Will they be nice, will they be creepy, will they have kids (man I hope not) will they be loud, will they complain about my dog. I wish my neighbor could buy it and stay.
We have had some nice days so Chibs and I are going to the Church as much as we can. I noticed he has a weird bump on one of his legs. It is freaking me out. I am taking him to the vet Tuesday. Please say a prayer it is not anything serious. It is on his joint. He is still in his puppyhood so it would be strange for him to have old dog growths. I cant believe how much I love this dog and the close bond we have already. I dont want anything to be wrong.
Judy great job on your weigh in. I am struggling and trying so hard to stay on track. I am kind of just ignoring the new plan and doing what I was doing.

Ginny, my daughter just got back from Fairbanks, Alaska. It was a business trip. The temperature with the windcill factor was -50. When she got back she told me that she was glad to be able to go outside. The first day she was home she took the dogs for a very long walk down in the fields. She met the folks who the cow and calf belong to, and they were able to rescue them now that the flood waters have gone down. I'm sorry it's been so cold where you are, cold weather is definitely a challenge. Driving in snow and/or ice is definitely not my favorite thing.
Teresa, you aren't the only one who is following what worked for them on the old program. I sort of cheated...I took the quiz until I basically could do what I was already doing. I saw one of the folks who attends the WW meetings at the fitness club. She said, she doesn't have a computer or a smart phone so she's just doing what she's done before and eating more veggies. I sometimes wonder if WW gets that many of the folks who attend the meetings are older and not comfortable with doing stuff on their phone and only do basic stuff on the computer, if they have one. I certainly am not a computer whiz, but over the last few years I've learned a whole lot, and I'm glad I have.
Like Ginny, I hope you are able to move to Kilgore. Maybe what seems impossible now will happen in the future.
Time to get to my list. It never seems to get shorter. Take care, Judy

It has warmed up for the next few days. The thermometer is reading 47 F. Quite different when there is no minus sign in front of the numbers. The snow is kind of melting but no water is running. My driveway & front lawn face south so hopefully something interesting happens. The cover for my garage door opener has disappeared. I need to get into the garage and see if I can locate the box with some of the papers. I will probably need to order a new case. It's been a few years so one never know if they still have parts. I see the guy in the place on the bottom road shoveling snow off his driveway. I just leave the stuff and let it melt. Got my booster shot on Jan 6. It was Pfizer. The other 2 shots were Pfizer. I have slept a lot for a few days but feel fine now. Was very tired. Cold too but then it was so cold here too.
My son and his girlfriend both have Covid. They think they either got it at a restuarant or grocery store. They had high temperatures, cough and head aches. They have had it for about a week and say they are feeling better. They also said that they were glad that they had their 2 shots as it would of been 20X worse if they hadn't. My other son is in Europe and won't be back til February 21. I am worried but there is nothing I can do except pray and hope he and his team stay safe!
They had free test kits but ran out of them mid December. They say people are hording them so there's none left. Looking on the internet they say January 17 they may be available. I am working on putting the basement in order. I am finding that I need to get organized so that I can get the tasks done! It's hard work and when I get distracted there's no one to get me back on track again. Upstairs looks pretty good just need to get the island cleared off.
Projects to get done and projects that say later gator!
Glad everyone is safe! Enjoy your warmer weather!
Hugs Kathy

We are going to go get our booster shots today, it is a drive thru at the fairgrounds. Chibs is going to stay with Jeff my old boss while we go. I hope he behaves and I hope he doesnt lose him.
Has anyone had their boosters? did it make you feel sick or tired or anything? I went grocery shopping yesterday but I am wondering if I should grab a few more things just in case.

Jim and I took a book to the drive through at the fairgrounds. It took a while, but we were fine with our books, moved the car whenever they told us to, and eventually filled out the paperwork and got our boosters. Neither of us had any severe symptoms. We both had a slightly sore upper arm, emphasis on the slightly. We had gotten the two Moderna shots so we got the Moderna booster. We were give the option of Moderna or Pfizer. I'm so glad you are getting the booster. It may stop you from getting some form of the Covid, but it does mean you probably won't end up in the hospital. Omicron is so contagious it worries me. I am being super careful about wearing a mask.
Yesterday one of the instructors posted this because the type of mask is working so well for him. He said it is not an endorsement, but I am very interested because the mask appears to work well with glasses.

I have been teaching on campus during this pandemic and have had to try many different masks; there is one that has stood out.
To be clear I am not endorsing the mask or the manufacturer. The Gata mask has been working very well for me in the classroom and life in general.
The mask is silicone and seals to the skin making it far safer than most masks.
Because of the seal, it does not fog my glasses unless I cough or sneeze.
You can switch the filters from N95 to double layer cloth based on needs and risk level.
There is a nylon basket that keeps the main mask away from the mouth and nose.
The elastic bands are replaceable.
It comes in cool colors and in kids sizes with different cool colors.

In any case, just sharing what has worked for me.

I went to see the exhibit Beyond VanGogh. It was amazing and definitely worth the money and the trip to Portland.
Kathy sorry your family got Covid, but VERY happy they were vaccinated. Over and over in the news the reports are that the people who are super sick, end up in the hospital and sometimes die, are mostly unvaccinated. What a shame that it has become a political issue in the U.S.
Time to close. Take care, Judy

The kids in Victoria are on the mend. It was his Birthday on the 13th and they ordered in and watched a movie. Couldn't do much else. They say they are feeling sluggish but without the vaccines it would of been worse!
I cancelled my flight to Mexico for Feb 25 - March 6. I have a credit that expires March 24,2023. I I book a flight and it's less than the credit I loose the difference so will have to see where I would go for about $966. I thought I'd look at flights to Nova Scotia, Canada. Have always wanted to go there but the flights were so expensive. One could fly to Europe and beyond for what it would cost to fly there. My parents got married in Halifax in 1943. Maybe I can find someone to go with? The Wedding is cancelled indefinitely. They don't know what they are doing. Talking about having a couple of receptions but nothing definite. Canadian Government is asking people to not fly unnecessary so I guess that Mexico falls into the category.
Haven't heard anything from Europe and really don't expect to. Go to Luge.ca click on teams. Nex Gen Coach head Coach is my son. Dashing if I say so myself!
The weather here has turned COLD! Yesterday it was 9C this morning it is -18C A cold front has blown in and it will be cold for a few days then warmer weather is suppose to arrive. There is blowing snow and it's cozy time on the couch and hot drinks.
My face broke out where the mask sits. I've tried washing it with my cleanser, putting salve on it and nothing seems to help. I put all 4 of my cloth masks in the pot and boiled them for 5 minutes and then put them in the dryer on hot. I have worn disposal masks and haven't noticed a difference either. So am going to book an appointment with my Dr and see what she advises. Sometimes it's itchy.
Am going to find out how I can get the kits the government is giving out. I don't want to stand in line for hours. My cousin says her's were in her prescriptions that she got in December and her husband got his too. The drug stores have been out for about a month.
My sister got the Booster of Moderna. That was recommended for them in Nanaimo. She said that their arms were sore for a few days but nothing else. My arm didn't hurt. I was just sleepy but then I worked the next few days 8 hours a day.
Hope everyone is warm!
Hugs Kathy

Hello, we were supposed to see the sun today, but the fog didn't agree. I hope the fog burns off tomorrow, it's supposed to be sunny again, but we are socked in right now. I hope the weather gods get the message--sun please.
Before I forget. I ordered the facemasks the LBCC instructor recommended, and I personally would not recommend them. For me, the mask did not feel as if it fit properly, and I did not like the plastic feel of the mask around my nose and mouth. Guess I'll just keep looking for alternatives and wearing the KN95 mask. That mask is okay if I don't have to wear it for long periods.
I was asked to make a block for the guild's 2023 raffle quilt, and I did, but...I'm not very happy with the result. I will take it tomorrow to the person who is organizing the quilt. I would offer to do the block over, but I'm not sure the result would be much different since I was very careful when I made this block. So frustrating...
Not much more for me to report. Life here isn't exactly in lockdown, but most of the meetings I thought I would attend in person have gone back to Zoom. Our restaurants are open, but we have been doing take-out. I know that life will never return to pre-pandemic days, but I wish it was just a little less scary. I am doing my best not to get Omicron. I hope I am successful.
Take care, Judy
